Drill Rig
The drill rig aboard the Greatship Maya is a propriety designed derrick customised for geotechnical work. The derrick is a twin tower construction 32 meters in height and has the following features:
- Rotary top drive
- Heave compensation
- Automatic pipe handler minimising human interaction on the drill floor
- Specialised drill floor on a dedicated mezzanine deck.
- Main deck (below drill floor) custom fit out for seabed unit deployment
- The drill floor sits above a moon pool 7m x 7m
The current installed system is able to operate in water depths of up to 2000 meters.
Samples can be taken, and tests performed to soil depths of client specification. Some tools available:
- Wide inventory of drill bits to suit any type of soil or rock formation encountered
- PQ or HQ rock core size selection
- 3-in diameter by 1m length undisturbed push sampling (with/without piston)
- Piggyback coring
- In-situ testing through drill pipe (e.g. PCPT, Vane shear, Dissipation Test):
- Push/pull capacity 100 kN
- Cone/rod area 10 cm²
- Real time Data acquisition
- Pressure compensated cones for deepwater work
