Offshore Geotechnical Survey.  Core Samples  – Seabed Operation Mode

Where seabed conditions are in deep water and generally consisting of very soft to soft  clay layers, seabed cores can be retrieved by Bluestone Offshore by use of a seabed unit.

Utilising the latest in Industry technology and equipment,  difficult to achieve samples (e.g. deepwater, easily disturbed soft upper clay layers) ranging in quality from good to excellent can be obtained. Samples of up to 20 meters in length can be retrieved from water depths of up to 2000 meters using:

  • New generation cutting shoes
  • Piston sealed samples
  • Greater accuracy in Positioning
  • Push sampling via  wheel drive thrust system to provide continuous even push pressure.

Seabed mode testing and sampling is performed by Roson APB seabed unit with the following specifications:

  • Push/pull capacity 100 kN.
  • 4” diameter Piston corer
  • Weight adjustable 4, 7, 9 or 12 tons
  •  Dimensions base plate 2190×2690 mm²
  • Continuous undisturbed Samples up to 20 meters long

Communication to the Roson APB seabed unit is via umbilical cord. Samples can be extracted once on deck and preliminary analysis for quality be determined utilising the onboard laboratory.
